This Edwardian family home in Kingston upon Thames had a tiny kitchen and dining room that was under utilised so the layout was re arranged making it a wonderful open open living dining area with a sneaky social sitting area.
The original floors were retained making the flooring an eclectic mix or patterns and finishes, and the vintage green dresser nestled in the alcove is the perfect place for extra storage.
A contemporary clean kitchen in an unexpected pink paired with a bamboo top highlights the clients want for an inviting and relaxed home playing with colour and texture (Shmidt Kitichens).
In order to utilise the work surface efficiently a boiler tap has been used (Quooker) saving on space for food preparation.
The tiles are hand stained porcelain and the concept was to look like fish scales, the matte finish and marble effect works in perfect balance to the Corian sink and brass handles.
A sitting area is just perfect for socialising and chatting to the chef.... the original tiled flooring compartmentalises the area and creates natural zones in the new room. Exposed steels compliment the Gypset stye of the soft furnishings and bring an unexpected balance to the project.
A fibre textured wall covering is used throughout this project (popular in homes in Germany) to soften the sharp lines of the extension and add a gentle interest to the walls which are painted in the softest shade of grey (Dulux Grey Steel 4)
Large bi-fold doors make for easy indoor / outdoor living and invite the sunshine into the dining area warming the concrete floor up wonderfully (there is also underfloor heating installed for chilly evenings).
The children have also had a key role in the concept of this room with playful touches like the addition of the rocking horse and the cheeky parrot watching over the dining table.
